How to Make Doll Dress Making Easy?

A doll dress is the beginning of your journey to becoming a better embroidery artist. You need to understand how basic measurements work, and your doll’s dress should follow basic fashion principles. In this article, we teach you the three elements that make doll dress-making easy:

1. A cool top with sequins and beads.
2. A flower skirt with all the necessary embellishments.
3. And a pair of fancy pants.

Method 1 (Top for Doll Dress):

Let’s jump right into it by choosing a fabric for the dress. Also, we will discuss the process in steps; so, you may sew with our blog.

Step 1: Cut a piece of fabric that will form the doll dress that will not have frayed edges such as felt. Furthermore, note that felt cuts into clean pieces. The cloth should be wide enough to overlap the puppet by 1 inch. It will form the fundamental of your doll dress.

The fabric piece can be as long as you want it to be. Measure the widest part of your doll to determine the width. 

Step 2: Lay the doll on the fabric and mark the measurements next to the doll’s shoulders to measure shoulder width. The top of the shoulders should be half an inch below the top border of the fabric. But, place a small mark on the cloth next to each of the shoulders to be sure.

Step 3: Cut out holes along each of these two measured marks on the fabric. In other words, these will make the armholes for the marionette dress.

Step 4: slide the doll’s arms into the holes. Then, slide the holes up to the doll’s shoulders, making sure the arms fit. But, remember that it is better to have smaller armholes for your doll dress than large ones. You can always cut them a bit larger.

Step 5: Now, wrap fabric across the doll much like a robe. Wrap it around as tight as you want it to be. It should be long enough to wrap around the back.

Step 6: Use a long strip of fabric and secure the dress around the waist. Also, you need to tie it around the doll’s waist and keep the “wrapped dress” in place. Nevertheless, a ribbon can also help secure the doll dress in place.

Step 7: Fold back the collar to create a look of a collar on the dress.

Step 8: Now add jewels, beads, and sequins by glueing them on. You can trace the bottom of the skirt with some ornaments to make it look fashionable. In other words, the first part of your doll dress is ready! See, isn’t doll dress-making easy?

Method 2 (Skirt for Doll Dress):

Step 1: Lay the doll on the fabric and mark the cloth. You can make a beautiful skirt for your doll using a method similar to the above one. In other words, cut the fabric so that it is as long as you want. And mark the cloth to indicate the length. Mark the beginning and end of the textile. Take a look at this example:

• If the doll is 30 inches and you want a skirt to extend to 18 inches from the waist, then the rectangle cut out should be 18 inches long and 30 inches wide.

Step 2: You can connect the marks in a rectangle with a pen or a piece of chalk. Now use a pair of scissors to cut along the traced lines. 

Step 3: The strip of fabric should be 1 inch wide and as long as the width of your rectangle. It is necessary to wrap the fabric around the doll’s waist a certain number of times. 

Step 4: Wrap the fabric around the puppet’s waist till the ends overlap by 1 inch. Do a loose wrapping for a full-flowing skirt. 

Step 5: When you are happy with the skirt, wrap the fabric as tightly as you want to secure the skirt in place. And an element of your doll dress is ready to sell. Wasn’t this exercise in doll dress-making easy?

Method 3 (Lastly, awesome pants):

Step 1: Lay the doll on the fabric again, and the fabric need not have a pattern. Also, you can start with clothing textile that is wide and long enough to make a pair of pants. These pants are crucial to a doll dress and add to the appeal of the entire get-up.

Step 2: Trace along the doll’s legs and extend a line to the length of the pants. Here are some measurements:

Trace .5 inches from the doll’s legs to get fitted pants.

Trace 1 inch from the puppet’s legs for loose-fitting pants.

Trace 2 inches from the miniature figurine’s legs for baggy pants.

Step 3: Once you have traced out the fabric, cut it out along the lines marked. In the same way, you have to cut two pieces of the fabric outlined, so it is advised that you stack two pieces of cloth with one sheet of carbon paper in the middle.

Step 4: Sew the edges together by stitching .25 inches from the edge of the fabric. Also, sew the two fabric layers together.

Step 5: This is the fun part. Now just turn the pants inside out, and you are done!
